The three-day HREDD training aimed to equip trade unions with knowledge on the mechanism created by the OECD Guidelines for Responsible Business Conduct (RBC). Companies had already been informed about this, so it was not new information, but the mandatory EU CSDDD (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive) underlined this and was making companies more aware. With the CSDDD coming up in 2027, it was seen as a good opportunity to train trade unions (and allies, partners, NGOs) so that they would become knowledgeable engagement partners. Trade unions were expected to play an important part in identifying risks, mapping the value chain, monitoring mitigation measures, and therefore, it was highly important for them to understand the six steps of the HRDD cycle as well as relevant legislation that could be used to remind companies of their duties. Though some theory was shared, the training mainly encouraged our union leaders to put their knowledge into practice through group exercises. The meeting was also held to get the role of companies to be accountable to the market chain as we invited the seed companies along with the workers to become aware and to negotiate with the companies.
